NZYC Alumni Choir News and Events

The NZYC Alumni Choir will be launched in 2010 and as an alumnus of either the Youth Choir or Voices NZ Chamber Choir, you are invited to join!  This choir will come together where and when there is a need - either a booking by an outside promoter, a venture we wish to undertake, or because you think it is a good idea and can lobby us to consider it!

Our first gig has been planned.  We have been invited by the NZSO to sing in a Christmas concert in Christchurch in December 2010.  The NZYC Alumni Choir is full fee paying - when you sign up, we will tell you how much it costs (and will always endeavour to be reasonable), where you need to be and when.  There will be the usual expectation of learning the notes in advance, but we promise you an excellent time of excellent music, with friends new and old.

Saturday 11 - Tuesday 14 December 2010 - Christchurch

Includes residency to enable those from out of Christchurch to participate and is open to all Alumni of NZYC, Voices and current choir members too.

The programme includes:

Reger “O Jerusalem Suss” for a capella choir
Nicolai “Weihnachts-Ouverture” for choir and orchestra
And Handel’s “Hallalujah Chorus”

Rehearsals will begin Saturday 11 December, 10am, in Christchurch - at this stage we have pencil booked Living Springs - an accommodation and conference venue 30 minutes from Christchurch over the Port Hills.

We will rehearse all day Saturday and Sunday with Karen Grylls.
On Monday evening we will rehearse with the conductor, Paul Goodwin*
The concert is Tuesday 14 December in the evening at the Christchurch Town Hall.

You will need to be available for the four days, in Christchurch. Music will be available at least a month prior, and you will be required to come note ready. All travel and expenses remain your responsibility, but accommodation and meals at Living Springs are very reasonably priced.  We will endeavour to assist where we can with logistics, based on numbers and need. Concert dress at this stage is all black.

Please register your interest by emailing me on bgeorge.Aotearoa@gmail.com. Please include your contact details and voice part (SSAATTBB).  I will shortly have all the costs for the weekend available but as a rough guide, Living Springs is approximately $65 per day accommodation and meals included.

I hope that there will be more opportunities nationwide and over the next few months we will actively seek these out. As with all things “new” we would welcome your comments and feedback as we go.

Please consider joining us for this NZYC Choir event.
With very best wishes
Barbara George, Chief Executive – Soprano 2

*Paul Goodwin – suggest you google him “Paul Goodwin conductor” – “One of Britain’s most versatile conductors, renown for his historically informed interpretations of baroque, classical and romantic music ..”

We've already had a number of people sign up - I've listed them here and will add to the list as new names are to hand:  I hope this will encourage people to come and meet up with old friends and have a great time singing too:
