Choirs Seek Chief Executive
Established in 1979 as a charitable trust, Choirs Aotearoa New Zealand, incorporating the National Youth Choir and the professional choir, Voices New Zealand are seeking a new Chief Executive to lead the choirs to even greater heights of choral excellence.
A role such as this seldom becomes available in New Zealand and has resulted through our current CE accepting another exciting role off-shore.
The Board of Trustees is seeking an individual who not only shares our passion for music and the arts through a current, similar management role and suitable qualification but also possesses exceptional strategic leadership qualities.
As the Chief Executive, you will be Wellington based and contribute to overall strategic objectives by providing leadership, support and direction through your vision, financial acumen and cultural management.
Success in this role will be driven by your exceptional interpersonal skills which will allow you to build relationships with senior business contacts, trustees and choral members with ease and use those skills and previous experience to secure funding and sponsorship which are so essential to the organisation’s existence.
In return for your outstanding organisation, attention to detail and enthusiasm you will receive a competitive salary package and a vibrant, challenging environment filled with dedicated, like-minded individuals.

Chief Executive heads to Australia - New CEO Needed!
Chair of the Board of Trustees of Choirs Aotearoa New Zealand Trust, Dr Alan Walmsley, regrets to announce that Chief Executive Barbara George has resigned to take up the position of Chief Executive of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. “Barbara assumed the post of Chief Executive at a critical time for CANZ and has been instrumental in moving the organisation to the present healthy situation. Her skill and enthusiasm has engendered confidence in our financial supporters and both management and singers” said Dr Walmsley.
The Trust, which governs the New Zealand Youth Choir and Voices New Zealand Chamber Choir, reports that the organisation is in a good position for this transition with an improved financial position and committed staff in place. The artistic outlook is excellent, following a recent highly successful NZYC tour to Asia and Australia, and Voices selection to represent New Zealand at the 9th World Choral Symposium in Argentina next August.
Dr Walmsley and the Trustees thank Ms George for her work with the Choirs which has seen sponsorship and grant income increase, and relationships built across the industry and community. During her tenure the New Zealand Youth Choir performed for Prime Minister John Key in Seoul and attracted capacity audiences for concerts in Christchurch and Auckland Town Hall. Planning for future engagements in the short to medium term will see collaborations with other high profile arts organisations in venues across New Zealand.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Choirs and as an alumnus of the New Zealand Youth Choir, it will always be a special and important organisation to me. I urge you to continue to support these fine young singers as they develop their potential and serve as wonderful musical ambassadors for New Zealand” said Ms George.
The Board of Trustees will shortly be calling for expressions of interest in the role.
